Direct from Beijing in their debut Australian tour
With Artistic Director of Music, Maestro Zuohuang Chen
Sydney Opera House, Concert Hall
One show only – Tuesday 6 November
For the first time ever the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) Orchestra will visit Australia. This world-class orchestra will perform one concert only at Sydney Opera House on Tuesday 6 November 2012. The concert features an orchestra of 90 under the baton of NCPA’s Artistic Director of Music, Maestro Zuohuang Chen.
Established in March 2010, the NCPA Orchestra is the orchestra in residence of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. The Orchestra performs regularly in NCPA’s busy schedule of operas, ballets and concerts to great acclaim.
Together with its own prolific concert season, the Orchestra also forms the solid base for NCPA’s own opera season with more than a dozen rounds of operas every year. NCPA Orchestra musicians are from various countries and regions, and most of them have experience working or studying in Europe or North America.
The orchestra has impressed many world top artists including Lorin Maazel, Christoph Eschenbach, Placido Domingo, Leo Nucci, Lang Lang, Stephen Kovacevich, Rudolph Buchbinder, Yuja Wang, Han-Na Chang.
Maestro Lorin Maazel has worked with the orchestra in several operas and concerts, in his view it is “an excellent, hard-working orchestra with great passion.” The orchestra’s European debut in Kissinger Sommer Festival in July 2012 was highly acclaimed by the local media with a review in Mainpost declaring “The China NCPA Concert Hall Orchestra under Maestro Zuohuang Chen is not only precise but also full of ideas, with exhilarating liveliness and a long breathing.”
For the Orchestra’s Sydney premiere NCPA Orchestra of China will perform a selection of masterpieces including The Butterfly Lovers composed by Zhanhao He and Gang Chen and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”. The concert also features violinist Feng Ning, the first prize winner of the Paganini Competition in 2006, and a regular guest artist with top conductors, orchestras and festivals around the world.
This is a unique opportunity for Sydney audiences to experience exquisite music and witness the supreme skill and artistry of the NCPA Orchestra of China.
